The iPhone 17 Air is at the center of new rumors. This model is said to be not only the thinnest iPhone yet, but also change a small but clearly visible detail on the front. A leaked screen protector provides the first hint of the direction Apple might take with this model.
A new photo is causing controversy among Apple fans. It shows a screen protector allegedly intended for the iPhone 17 Air. Leaker Majin Bu published the image. It points to a design change that may surprise many users: The front camera is said to be located to the left of the dynamic island – previously, it was on the right side of all current models.
New position of the front camera
If the rumor is confirmed, this would be a break with Apple's previous front-facing camera layout. Since the introduction of the Dynamic Island, the front camera has always been located to the right. The leaked screen protector for the iPhone 17 Air now shows a cutout on the left side. Interestingly, similar leaks regarding the screen protectors of the other three iPhone 17 models—the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max—do not show any change in the camera position. Only the iPhone 17 Air features this deviation.

Possible reason: the new, extremely thin design
One possible reason for this design decision could be the new casing design. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be just 5.5 millimeters thick—making it the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever built. To achieve this thinness, Apple likely has to rearrange many internal components. This may include the placement of Face ID and the front camera. Whether the camera was moved for this reason alone or whether Apple is also linking it to functional innovations is not yet known.
New 24-megapixel front camera for all iPhone 17 models
Another detail that is now considered highly likely: All four iPhone 17 models, including the iPhone 17 Air, will be equipped with a 24-megapixel front-facing camera. This is a significant improvement over the current models, which feature a 12-megapixel camera. However, this upgrade alone doesn't explain why only the iPhone 17 Air has a different camera position. The screen protectors for the other models show the familiar arrangement, despite the same camera technology.
Presentation probably in September
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 Air in September at its annual iPhone event. Only then will it become clear whether the rumors about the new camera position are true—and what the technical or design reasons behind them are.
The iPhone 17 Air clearly stands out
The iPhone 17 Air is likely to stand out not only for its extreme thinness, but also for its redesigned front design. The possible new position of the front camera is a small but striking hint that Apple is changing more than just the external shape of the Air model. Combined with the new 24-megapixel camera and the slimmed-down casing, the iPhone 17 Air could clearly stand out from the other models in the series. If you're interested in the iPhone 17 Air, it's worth keeping a close eye on the coming months – until Apple itself sheds some light on the matter. (Image: MajinBuOfficial / X)
