Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the high-end iPhone in 2024, the iPhone 16 Pro, will have a camera and Face ID under the display. This would mean that the device would completely do without a notch.
Once again, Ming-Chi Kuo has extrapolated from his previous reports instead of releasing new information. The analyst has now tweetedthat he expects a “true full-screen iPhone” for 2024.
I think the real full-screen iPhone will come in 2024. High-end iPhones in 2024 will have an under-display front camera in addition to the under-display Face ID. In low light conditions, the quality of the front camera suffers. ISP and algorithm are crucial to improve the quality.
This tweet follows a tweet from early April in which Kuo agreed with analyst Ross Young that under-display Face ID will arrive in 2024.
iPhone 16 Pro could completely do without a notch
Kuo said at the time that he believes the "timeline is less a technical issue than a marketing goal." The new tweet repeats this claim regarding Face ID, adding the prediction that the front selfie camera will also be relocated below the display. Kuo is unclear on how this will happen, saying that "front-facing camera quality will be compromised in low-light conditions." However, the analyst also says that an image signal processor (ISP) and the right "algorithm are critical for quality improvements." While not relying on direct supply chain sources, he could be implying that the delay to 2024, in this case, is to give Apple time to overcome technical hurdles. Whether Kuo will be proven right again remains to be seen. (Photo by bigtunaonline / Bigstockphoto)
