More than 50% of the iPhone 13 models that will be released this fall will support mmWave, DigiTimes claims, confirming previous rumors.

We have already read reports that Apple wants to expand the mmWave technology to other regions this year. Now writes the DigiTimes:

Apple will launch its next-generation iPhone series - tentatively called iPhone 13 - later in 2021, according to industry sources, who believe more than 50% of the total iPhone 13 devices will be 5G mmWave models.

iPhone 13 & 5G: The difference between mmWave and Sub-6GHz

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, as well as other sources, have claimed that the iPhone 13 models will support the ultra-fast mmWave 5G bands in additional countries, with likely candidates including Canada, Japan, Australia, and some European countries. In comparison, mmWave support on the iPhone 12 models is limited to the United States. mmWave is a range of 5G frequencies that promise ultra-fast speeds at short distances, suitable for dense urban areas. In comparison, 5G in the sub-6GHz frequency range is generally slower than mmWave but the signals travel farther, better serving suburbs and rural areas. In addition to the expanded availability of mmWave, it has previously been reported that the iPhone 13 will have a smaller notch, larger batteries, and a 120Hz display. The new devices are also said to feature improved cameras thanks to sensor-shift stabilization and improved low-light performance. (Photo by IndianSummer / Bigstockphoto)
