iOS 19: Gurman clearly contradicts Prosser's mockups

iOS 19 leak

There's always a lot of speculation ahead of a new iOS release. This is no different with iOS 19. In recent days, mockups from leaker Jon Prosser have caused a stir, supposedly offering a first glimpse of the new design. But according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, these designs have little to do with the actual iOS 19. He cites outdated information and missing details. Find out exactly what's behind this statement here.

According to Apple expert Mark Gurman, iOS 19 will bring a comprehensive redesign—the biggest since iOS 7. While users are looking forward to a fresh look, another topic is causing controversy: Jon Prosser has published mockups supposedly based on a real version of iOS 19. But Gurman disagrees, calling the designs "unrepresentative." The debate shows that iOS 19 is eagerly awaited, but not all leaks provide a realistic picture.

The iOS 19 mockups by Jon Prosser

Jon Prosser published several screenshots on his YouTube channel and on social media, which he described as mockups based on a real iOS 19 version. They show minor design changes: a slightly redesigned Messages app, new navigation buttons, a round keyboard, and transparency effects on the lock screen. Overall, many elements appear more rounded, with a glass-like look reminiscent of Apple's visionOS. Menus and settings also feature the same style. Prosser himself said in his video that the changes are rather subtle. He said there are no fundamental innovations, but rather a gentle evolution of the current design.

Mark Gurman clearly disagrees

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman strongly contradicted the mockups. On his Discord channel "Power On," he said that the images shown were based either on very old iOS 19 builds or on vague descriptions. He considers the mockups neither current nor complete. He says they are completely missing important features and design elements. Gurman points out that Apple is planning a fundamental visual overhaul with iOS 19. He previously said it would be the biggest design update since iOS 7. While he didn't provide any specific screenshots or details, he said Apple will redesign icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons, among other things. The direction is said to be based on the style of the Vision Pro user interface—although not identical, rather "loosely inspired."

What does this mean for the upcoming update

If you're excited about iOS 19, you shouldn't consider the mockups currently circulating as the final version. While they show some approaches that may actually be adopted—such as the rounder shapes and the glass-like effect—Gurman says they don't reflect what Apple plans to unveil this summer. The actual changes could be significantly more extensive, both visually and functionally. Apple will officially unveil iOS 19 at WWDC in June. Only then will it become clear how far-reaching the new design really is and which elements differ from the current iOS.

Gurman warns: The “leaks” do not show the real iOS 19

The discussion surrounding Jon Prosser's iOS 19 mockups demonstrates the great interest in Apple's upcoming update. However, according to Mark Gurman, this is not a realistic depiction of the new design. He believes the published screenshots are based on outdated or incomplete information. What you can take away from all this: iOS 19 will be a larger update than previous leaks suggest. According to Gurman, Apple is planning a visual overhaul that will make the system significantly more modern and visually closer to visionOS. More details will be officially released in June. Until then, it's worth being cautious with unofficial designs. The best products for you: Our Amazon Storefront offers a wide selection of accessories, including HomeKit-compatible ones.
