Apple regularly updates its list of discontinued devices. Now, it's reported that five more MacBook models will be given "discontinued" status by the end of April 2020.
As soon as Apple devices are listed as “obsolete” or “discontinued”, support ends. Now reports MacRumors about an internal memo stating that Apple plans to add five MacBook models to the list of vintage products by the end of this month. These are said to be the following models:
- MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2013)
- MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013)
- MacBook Air (11-inch, early 2014)
- MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2014)
What does this mean for users?
The update to the vintage list is scheduled to take place on April 30th. This means that users will no longer be able to get repairs from Apple or authorized service providers. In the event of a problem, they will have to rely on independent service providers. With a few exceptions, Apple's rule of thumb is to produce replacement parts for devices for five years – however, this period only begins when production of the respective device ceases. Only then is the customer forced to look elsewhere for replacement parts. The official "Discontinued and Vintage Products" list can be found here. here. (Photo by Yastremska / Bigstockphoto)
