Apple's AR/VR headset: With WiFi 6e support

Composition of abstract sine waves and design elements with metaphorical relationship to modern computing virtual reality and signal processing

Apple is reportedly planning to unveil its first mixed reality headset in 2022. Now Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has come forward with further details.

Rumor has it that Apple on at least two AR/VR projects, including a mixed reality headset set to launch in late 2022, followed by sleeker augmented reality glasses to follow at a later date. According to Kuo, Apple's first headset and similar competing products will have faster WiFi 6E support to meet the demands of the high-end immersive experience they offer.

Will Apple unveil the new AR/VR headset in late 2022?

Adopting the latest WiFi specification is a prerequisite for head mounted displays (HMDs) to improve the wireless experience. Meta, Apple and Sony's new HMDs will all adopt WiFi 6/6E in 2022. We expect Meta, Apple and Sony to be the most influential brands in the metaversion device market in 2022. Meta, Apple and Sony will launch new HMDs in 2H22, 4Q22 and 2Q22 respectively.

Kuo reports that Apple aims to avoid a wired connection between the headset and the computer. Specifically, the technologies being discussed are WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E, with Kuo stating that WiFi 6E will be used in Apple's headset. Kuo recently claimed that mass production of the Apple headset could be delayed until the end of the fourth quarter of 2022. Nevertheless, he now believes that the presentation will take place in late 2022. (Photo by agsandrew / Bigstockphoto)
