Rumors about new Apple Watch models have been a rarity so far. This makes reports that address the topic all the more interesting.
Today's report on the next generation of Apple Watch is less about design or functionality. Today it's primarily about production. The news platform DigiTimes claims to have learned from suppliers that the Apple Watch Series 6 will be manufactured by Foxconn and Compal Electronics - according to this, both companies have been awarded the contract by Apple. The report states:
“Compal Electronics and Foxconn Technology Group (Hon Hai Precision Industry) have received orders for the 2020 series of Apple Watch, while China-based Luxshare ICT is expected to receive orders for the old generation of Apple Watch, according to industry sources.”
Apple Watch Series 6 with MicroLED screen?
Just recently, it was claimed that Quanta Computers would not be assembling the next generation of Apple Watch, citing "profit concerns." As mentioned above, rumors surrounding upcoming Apple Watch models are very rare and should be viewed with skepticism. Little is known about the Apple Watch Series 6 either, but there is a possible approach. Apple is reportedly employing a group of biomedical scientists to develop a solution for monitoring blood sugar levels. According to rumors and patents, this will involve the use of optical sensors.
Another innovation could be the display technology. Apparently, there are plans to equip the next generation of Apple Watch with a MicroLED screen. The advantage over an OLED watch would be a brighter, thinner and more energy-efficient Apple smartwatch. It remains to be seen how this will actually be implemented.
