Rumors surrounding a new Apple AirPower charging mat caused a stir a few weeks ago. Now, new details about the product "C68" have emerged.
The new edition of Apple AirPower It is said to be known internally by the codename "C68." Well-known YouTuber and leaker Jon Prosser claims to have learned this information. According to his source, Apple has solved the overheating problem in the current prototype. The addition of the A11 chip allegedly helped.
The "C68" product is currently undergoing extensive testing and is expected to make a good impression. The first prototypes of the series are expected to be deployed in Apple engineers' homes. The so-called "Sharing and Proximity Networking" team is working on software communication between the charging mat and devices. In his Twitter post, he uploaded a very blurry image that appears to show one of these new prototypes. Prosser explains in the tweet:
Apple AirPower launch possible in 2020
Because the Apple Watch uses a customized proprietary charging method, it requires more power to charge. In previous prototypes, if you placed an Apple Watch on the mat next to other devices, the entire mat would overheat and in most cases burn up (no joke). With the A11 chip, this new prototype has the ability to direct power to specific coil areas and can dynamically wait for temperatures to drop before applying more power to prevent overheating.
This means that the solution should actually be the A11 chip. Of course, it cannot be verified whether this information is correct. But there are already reports that Apple is working on a charging mat again - including from the well-known and accurate analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The launch of this Apple charging station could even take place this year. You don't have a Qi charging station yet and want a cheap model?
