Today could be an exciting day for Apple fans and audio lovers, as Apple is expected to unveil an updated version of the AirPods Max at its It's Glowtime event. These over-ear headphones, which have remained unchanged since their release in December 2020, are expected to feature a number of improvements - including better noise cancellation, adaptive audio, and the long-awaited USB-C port.

A lot has happened in the world of audio technology since the AirPods Max were introduced nearly four years ago. New trends and technological advancements have raised the bar for high-end headphones. While the AirPods Max remain a favorite among Apple users, they lag behind in some areas compared to the newer AirPods Pro. However, with the upcoming update, it's time for Apple to close that gap.

The big innovations: USB-C, noise cancellation and adaptive audio

One of the most noticeable changes expected with the new AirPods Max model is the introduction of the USB-C port, so Mark Gurman of BloombergThis move is not surprising, as Apple has been moving away from its proprietary Lightning connector in recent years. USB-C not only offers faster charging times but also improved data transfer and ensures that you can charge your devices with a unified cable - a clear advantage for anyone who already owns other USB-C devices.

Noise cancellation should be improved

Another important aspect of the update is the improved noise cancellation. While the current version of the AirPods Max already has solid active noise cancellation, the new technology in this area could take the user experience to a new level. According to speculation, Apple could use a similar technology to that in the AirPods Pro 2, which blocks out background noise even more effectively and lets you immerse yourself deeper in your music or podcasts. Adaptive audio is also expected as a new feature. This technology automatically adjusts the sound to your environment. For example, if you are in a noisy environment, the volume is adjusted accordingly so that you have an optimal listening experience without having to constantly adjust it manually.

What stays the same? Design and price

What is still unclear are possible changes to the design of the AirPods Max. There is currently no concrete indication that Apple will adjust the color palette or the external appearance. In recent years there have been repeated rumors about new colors, but whether these will actually be presented today remains to be seen. Another issue that concerns many potential buyers is the price. With a starting price of 579 euros, the AirPods Max are among the more expensive over-ear headphones on the market. Many hope that Apple will adjust this price downwards, especially since the competition also offers high-quality alternatives at a cheaper price. However, whether Apple is willing to lower the price or whether the company will continue to rely on its premium strategy remains to be seen.

No updates for the AirPods Pro

Interestingly, according to reports at today's event, there will be no updates for the AirPods Pro. While they have been updated regularly in the past, this time Apple seems to be focusing on the AirPods Max and the new AirPods 4. This means that those waiting for a new version of the AirPods Pro will have to wait a little longer.

Improved technology, uncertain price: What's changing with the AirPods Max

The upcoming update of the AirPods Max brings exciting new features that could significantly improve the user experience. With a USB-C port, better noise cancellation and adaptive audio, Apple seems to be bringing the AirPods Max up to date with the latest technology and giving the headphones more relevance in the highly competitive audio market. However, whether the price will also change or the design will set new accents remains uncertain for the time being. (Photo by Unsplash / Maximilian Waidhas)
