AirPods 3: What's changing inside

Rumors about a new generation of AirPods have been circulating for several months documentedBut not much is known about the AirPods 3 so far. Now star analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported back.

Apple introduced the second generation of AirPods in spring 2019 and only made minor changes. The AirPods Pro followed at the end of 2019. These have an in-ear design and offer the wearer noise cancellation. But fans are now asking themselves when will the AirPods 3 be introduced? What new features do the earbuds offer? Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wants to know the answer to this. Apple is planning a fundamental change that he has already mentioned in previous reports. According to him, the AirPods 3 will use SiP technology.

External adaptation to the Pro version?

This means that they will have a more complex system-in-package chip solution inside, which is already used in the AirPods Pro. Unlike SMT technology, SiP systems usually allow manufacturers to fit more components in a smaller space. In the case of the AirPods Pro, the SiP design houses the H1 chip designed by Apple, which processes audio, Siri commands, noise cancellation functions and more. Now this same technology is also to be used in the normal AirPods. What exactly this means for users, however, remains unclear. It is suspected that Apple will be releasing the third generation of the plug to the Pro version. Accordingly, these could adopt a similar design but appear without the in-ear component. It cannot be ruled out that more advanced functions will be integrated - says Kuo.

AirPods 3 could be released in spring 2021

Regarding the release date, the analyst again predicted the first half of 2021 and thus sticks to his forecast. Jon Prosser - a newcomer among the leakers - contradicted Kuo some time ago and suggested the month of May 2020. Obviously Prosser was wrong. Whatever. Since Apple usually holds a keynote in the spring (with the exception of this year), it stands to reason that the new product will be presented in March 2021. Do you want new headphones?
