Worldwide disruption: Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp down

OMG. Millennial black woman emotionally reacting to shocking news, gesturing WTF on pink studio background. African American lady expressing disbelief, standing with open mouth

It's that time again. The Facebook group is suffering from a disruption. Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are down.

OMG - the world is coming to an end, isn't it?! No, as long as Apfelpatient exists, everything is fine! Jokes aside. Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are affected by an outage and are unavailable to many users worldwide. For WhatsApp alone, almost 70,000 reports have already been documented on allestörungen.de - and the number is rising.

Disruption on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp

Next to allestörungen.de will also be on downdetector.com and reported on Twitter under the hashtag "#DeleteFacebook". The social media giant has not yet commented publicly on the ongoing outages that affect all of its services. If we learn any news, we will update the article and mark it accordingly. UPDATE – 6:25 p.m.

In the meantime, WhatsApp has posted a short message on Twitter Explanation and admitted to having been disturbed. The article states:

We're aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We're working to get things back under control and will provide an update here as soon as possible.

The same statements were also published on the official Facebook channel via Twitter.

Update – 9:18 pm

The disruption in the Facebook group continues. Loud Jane Manchun Wong, Facebook's internal Workplace website and the associated services for employees are also affected by the outage today. The company then distributed a memo about the problems to employees. But what exactly caused the disruption? The cybercrime reporter Brian Krebs attributes the outage to a major DNS problem. Krebs explains that the DNS entries that tell systems how to find Facebook and Instagram "were removed from the global routing channels this morning." How this could have happened, however, is not known.

Update – 00:05

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger are slowly but surely being restarted. Users should therefore gradually regain access to the services.
