WhatsApp currently seems to be testing two well-known features on the Mac desktop client. Both features are already available on the mobile version of WhatsApp.

A new WABetaInfo report According to reports, WhatsApp is currently testing voice and video calls on the Mac desktop client. While the features have been available on mobile for a long time, the web and desktop clients have to make do without them. But that is now set to change, as a beta of the desktop version of WhatsApp shows. As can be seen in the screenshot, users who take part in the beta testing phase of the client can see new buttons for voice and video calls in the chat header of the app window.

WhatsApp: Update could be released in the next few weeks

Clicking either button initiates a voice or video call to the selected contact and then displays a separate pop-up window with options to enable or disable video sharing, mute the call, or hang up.

Meanwhile, a call recipient using the desktop client will see a similar pop-up indicating that someone is calling them and giving them options to accept or reject the incoming call.

It remains unclear how long voice and video calls will be tested in beta on the Mac desktop client. The introduction of new functions can take longer in some cases. But there were also features that were introduced more quickly. The update could therefore be released in the next few weeks - let's wait and see. (Photo by ApisornJr / Bigstockphoto)
