WhatsApp gets new privacy settings

According to a tweet from the company, WhatsApp is releasing new privacy settings for profile photos, the info section and the "last seen" status. While the beta version already received these new features some time ago, all users should now be able to benefit from them.

Previously, WhatsApp users only had the option to set these settings for Everyone, My Contacts or Nobody. With the new update WhatsApp users have full control and can choose the settings with a new option called "My contacts except". This option allows your contacts to see your "last seen", profile photo or status, except for the people you exclude.

Last seen status updated with new WhatsApp privacy settings

If you have activated the "Last Seen" status, your contacts can see when you were last in the app. Something that is not always an advantage. However, you can deactivate the function for certain contacts from now on if you want to. However, if you exclude certain users from seeing your last seen status, you will not be able to see their status either. You can configure these new settings from today in the Account -> Privacy menu in WhatsApp. If you do not have access to it yet, please make sure that you have installed the latest WhatsApp update and be patient. Sometimes it can take a few days until all users have access to it. (Photo by Unsplash / Dima Solomin)
