Apple TV is bringing back its most decorated comedy hit – with a new setting, fresh cast and a clear premiere date.
Three years after the emotional finale of season 3, Ted Lasso returns. Apple TV today announced the official release date for the fourth season of the multiple Emmy Award-winning comedy series. This ends the long wait for fans – and Apple TV will get back its most important flagship show in the summer of 2026. The new season promises a bold change of direction that will reinvent the series once again.
Premiere date and release schedule
Apple TV today, April 28, 2026, announced the global release date for Ted Lasso Season 4. The new season will premiere worldwide on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. It will begin with a single episode, followed by a new episode every Wednesday. The season finale will air on October 7, 2026.
Apple is thus sticking with the weekly release model already established for originals like The Morning Show and Severance. This model offers two advantages for Apple TV: the discussion surrounding the series remains lively for weeks, and subscribers have a longer-lasting incentive to remain loyal to the service.
New cast and old friends
Lead actor Jason Sudeikis, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, is of course returning. Many fan favorites from the first three seasons are also back:
- Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton
- Juno Temple as Keeley Jones
- Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent
- Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard
- Jeremy Swift as Higgins
New additions to the cast include Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely. The expanded ensemble fits the new storyline, which significantly alters the series' setting.
The story of season 4
In terms of content, Ted Lasso takes a clear turn. Ted returns to Richmond and takes on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a women's soccer team in the second division. The season revolves around a guiding principle that perfectly suits Ted's character: Sometimes you have to jump before you look – seize opportunities, even if you don't know where you'll land.
Apple TV's move into women's football perfectly captures the spirit of the times. Women's football is experiencing massive growth internationally, from the UEFA Women's Champions League to the British Women's Super League. The fact that Ted Lasso focuses on this particular area makes the series thematically relevant and gives it a fresh perspective.
New faces behind the camera
Behind the scenes, there are also changes within the team. Emmy Award winner Jack Burditt joins as an executive producer as part of a new comprehensive deal with Apple TV. Sudeikis continues as star and executive producer, along with Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Brett Goldstein writes and produces, with support from Leann Bowen.
Sarah Walker and Phoebe Walsh join as writers and producers for season 4, with Sasha Garron as a co-producer. Julia Lindon is writing for the new season, and Dylan Marron is serving as story editor. Bill Lawrence is producing through his production company, Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content. Doozer's Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also serve as executive producers.
Ted Lasso's record status
Since its premiere in 2020, Ted Lasso has become a flagship show for Apple TV. The first season became the most Emmy-nominated comedy series of all time. The show also won two consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series in its first two seasons—an extremely rare feat in television history.
The first three seasons are still available globally on Apple TV. So, if you missed the start or want to refresh your memory before season 4 premieres, you have plenty of time to catch up until August 5th.
What the date means for Apple TV
With the return of Ted Lasso this summer, Apple TV is sending a clear message. In recent weeks, it has become evident that Apple is intensifying its efforts to attract subscribers – for example, through a large-scale survey on content and sports. A fourth iteration of Ted Lasso is a perfect strategic fit: The series attracts an international audience, generates media attention, and strengthens Apple TV's position in the competition with Netflix, Disney+, and Netflix Max.
From our perspective, the August release date is a clever choice. The 2026 FIFA World Cup ends on July 19th, so the launch of Ted Lasso coincides directly with the aftermath of the world's biggest football tournament. Millions of viewers will have just finished four weeks of watching football – and Apple TV is launching Ted Lasso at precisely this time, offering a blend of warmth, humor, and football romance. Furthermore, Apple TV's biggest competitors typically experience a programming lull during the summer. This positions Apple TV for a strong third quarter of 2026.
Ted Lasso Season 4 – the most important points at a glance
Ted Lasso returns to Apple TV on August 5, 2026, with a fourth season. New episodes every week until October 7, an expanded cast, new faces behind the scenes, and a bold shift in setting to women's soccer make this season one of Apple TV's biggest summer highlights. For Apple TV, the show's return is a strategic coup—and for fans, simply a reason to be excited. (Image: Apple)
