Apple released the fourth beta of macOS Monterey 12.1 early Wednesday evening and fixed a particularly annoying bug.

Apple released macOS Monterey 12.1 Beta 4 to registered developers yesterday evening. While the long-awaited Universal Control feature has still not been enabled, the latest beta appears to fix an issue with the "tap to click" trackpad gesture. Since the release of macOS Monterey, some users have reported that the "tap to click" trackpad gesture was intermittently not working. The issue appears to affect a variety of Macs, from the M1 MacBook Air with a built-in trackpad to the Intel-based iMac with a standalone Magic Trackpad. But now, Apple seems to have finally resolved the problem. This is what various users are reporting on Reddit (via MacRumors). The error should no longer occur under the latest macOS version.

When will Apple release macOS Monterey 12.1 to all users?

"Tap to Click" can be enabled in System Preferences under Trackpad -> Point & Click and allows you to tap with one finger to trigger a click. Apple has not yet announced a release date. However, we expect Apple to release both macOS Monterey 12.1 and iOS 15.2 and the like by the end of this year. The new versions could even launch before Christmas. Among other things, macOS Monterey 12.1 will introduce SharePlay, a feature that allows users to watch movies and TV shows, listen to music, and share their screens with friends and family during FaceTime calls. The feature was introduced for iPhone and iPad in iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1, respectively. (Photo by Unsplash / John Smit)
