Apple released the fourth beta of macOS Monterey 12.1 early Wednesday evening and fixed a particularly annoying bug.

Apple released macOS Monterey 12.1 Beta 4 to registered developers yesterday evening. The long-awaited Universal Control feature has still not been activated, but the latest beta appears to fix an issue with the "click-tap" trackpad gesture. Since the release of macOS Monterey, some users have reported that the "click-tap" trackpad gesture was not working at times. The issue seems to affect a variety of Macs, from the M1 MacBook Air with built-in trackpad to the Intel-based iMac with a standalone Magic Trackpad. But now Apple seems to have finally solved the problem. Various users are reporting this on Reddit (via MacRumors). The error should no longer occur under the latest macOS version.

When will Apple release macOS Monterey 12.1 to all users?

"Tap to click" can be activated in the system settings under Trackpad -> Point & Click and allows you to tap with one finger to trigger a click. Apple has not yet announced anything about the release. However, we assume that Apple will release both macOS Monterey 12.1 and iOS 15.2 and Co. by the end of this year. The launch of the new versions could even take place before Christmas. In macOS Monterey 12.1, Apple will introduce SharePlay, a function that allows users to watch films and series, listen to music and share the screen with friends and family during FaceTime calls. The feature was introduced for iPhone and iPad under iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1 respectively. (Photo by Unsplash / John Smit)

Apple devices here aren't test units for a fortnight but everyday tools: from the iPhone to the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac through to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it goes live.
