PHATTHALUNG, THAILAND - September 28, 2018: iMac computer, keyboard, magic mouse on wooden table, created by Apple Inc.

Apple released new updates for all users around two weeks ago, including macOS 10.15.4. Now there are increasing reports that there are increasing numbers of system crashes.

There are currently some Mac users who are not particularly happy with Catalina. According to reports, the system crashes during various actions. However, it most often happens when transferring large amounts of data. The phenomenon only occurs under macOS 10.15.4, as some users explain. However, the error is already known. In the SoftRAID forum, support explains that the company is already looking for a solution with Apple. The post states:

There is a serious problem on macOS 10.15.4. It occurs in various scenarios, even on Apple hard drives. We think it is a threading issue. Although SoftRAID hard drives are the most affected (it is now difficult to copy more than 30GB of data at a time), all systems are affected.

In our bug report to Apple, we used a method to reproduce the issue using ONLY Apple formatted drives. While it takes longer to reproduce, this will likely get the user base fixed faster.

Does macOS 10.15.5 fix the problem?

Other forums , including Apple's own, have reported that some users have experienced system crashes after waking from sleep. The Macs have suffered from a "kernel panic." However, the error has also been reported in isolated cases while browsing the web and using media. Some operating systems, including macOS 10.15.5 , are currently being tested in the first beta. The problem could be fixed before the final release. Apple itself has not yet commented on the problem. (Photo by Somchai Choosiri / Bigstockphoto)
