Intel has released new 8th generation processors from the U-series “Whiskey Lake" and Y-series "Amber Lake“. In general, the new chips are supposed to be more powerful and more energy efficient. The new processors are particularly well suited for MacBook and MacBook Air devices.
According to current rumors, Apple will introduce revised MacBooks in the fall. The new processors would fit well into the pattern. The new Amber Lake Chips would fit very well in a revised 12" MacBook. The performance of the device would improve significantly. Despite faster WiFi and higher performance, the battery life would not suffer - on the contrary, it could even be extended. Compatibility with third-generation PCIe and NVMe Pole x4 SSD would also enable an increased data transfer rate.
Whiskey Lake for MacBook Air
If current rumors are to be believed, Apple will redesign the MacBook Air series this fall. If this is the case, the Whiskey Lake Chips are very well suited for this. A performance boost would therefore be certain. Support for Gigabit WLAN and USB 3.1 of the second generation has also been integrated.
The fact that Apple can install newly introduced chips in just a few weeks was recently shown with the surprising update of the new MacBook Pro series - so it remains exciting.
