As promised, the TV manufacturer has released the update for selected 2019 TVs, which officially introduces AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support.

The company originally wanted to start the update in stages on July 25th - now the update is being rolled out with a slight delay. The update is available for all LG OLED, NanoCell and Ultra HD TVs with ThinQ AI function (except the SM8100 series) from 2019. Other 2019 models are to be updated this fall. In the press release, the company announced the following:

"With AirPlay 2, LG 2019 AI TV owners can effortlessly stream content - including Dolby Vision titles - from iPhone, iPad and Mac directly to their TVs. Users can stream their favorite movies and shows from the Apple TV app and other video apps, and view photos directly on their LG AI TVs. They can also play Apple Podcasts, Apple Music and music from their library or other streaming services through their LG AI TV and other AirPlay 2 compatible speakers in their home simultaneously - all in sync."

Many LG TV owners are frustrated because the company has limited Apple integration to 2019 devices. If you look at competitor Vizio, one or two may be particularly annoyed. The company wants to offer the same functions on devices that date back to 2016. With this update, LG is now the first global TV manufacturer to support Apple's HomeKit. With AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support, compatible TVs can be integrated directly into the Home app and connected to devices such as the HomePod. In addition, basic TV functions such as power, volume and more can be controlled via the Home application or Siri commands on iPhone and iPad. Apple devices here aren't test units for a fortnight but everyday tools: from the iPhone to the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac through to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it goes live.
