iOS 15 features

Koszalin, Poland - November 29, 2017: Space gray iPhone X and black iPhone 7. The iPhone X and iPhone 7 is smart phone with multi touch screen produced by Apple Computer, Inc.

Apple has finally released iOS 15 and Co. for all users worldwide. Some interesting but also really useful features have been added. However, some of them are not available on the iPhone X or older devices.

The beta phase of iOS 15 lasted about three months. Now the update is available with a whole range of new features available for download. Although iOS 15 supports a long list of devices, not all of the new features are available on every iPhone. Some of these features require the A12 Bionic chip or newer, as Apple has already explained This means that below we list functions that are not available on iPhone X or older devices.

These iOS 15 features require an iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR or newer

  • Portrait mode in FaceTime, which blurs your background and makes you the focus.
  • Spatial Audio in FaceTime, which makes voices sound as if they are coming from the direction in which the conversation partners are located.
  • Voice Isolation mode in FaceTime, which uses machine learning to block out ambient noise, such as a leaf blower outside or a barking dog in the next room, during your conversation.
  • Wide Spectrum mode in FaceTime, which amplifies ambient noise during the call.
  • An interactive 3D globe of the Earth in the maps app.
  • Immersive driving directions with step-by-step directions in the Maps app displayed in augmented reality.
  • More detailed maps in cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and London in the Maps app.
  • Live Text to copy and paste, look up, or translate text in photos.
  • Speech processing of Siri requests on the device.
  • The ability to ask Siri requests offline and without an internet connection, such as for timers, alarms, phone calls, messages, sharing, launching apps, controlling audio playback, and opening settings.
  • The ability to swipe up or down to zoom in or out when recording a QuickTake video.
  • The ability to add house, hotel and car keys to the Wallet app.
  • Keyboard dictation on the device that can be processed completely offline.
  • Continuous keyboard dictation, instead of a 60 second limit per instance.
  • New animated backgrounds in the Weather app that more accurately display the position of the sun, clouds and precipitation.

Apple has not yet explained why the features listed above require an iPhone with an A12 Bionic chip or newer. However, it can be assumed that Apple's second-generation Neural Engine or newer is required for optimal performance. iOS 15 is now available for download on all devices that can run iOS 14. This also includes the first-generation iPhone 6S and iPhone SE. (Photo by Leszek Kobusinski / Bigstockphoto)
