iPhone Air weight: Comparison of all current Apple models

The iPhone Air is Apple's thinnest and lightest iPhone yet. It's noticeably different from the standard and Pro models of the iPhone 17 series, offering a larger display without adding weight. Especially when compared to previous models and the new Pro versions, it's clear how important lightness has become to Apple.

Apple has changed the material used in its iPhones several times in recent years. The iPhone 17 Pro models used aluminum for the first time instead of titanium, saving several grams. With the iPhone Air, Apple goes a step further: a slim chassis, low weight, and yet a display that's larger than the standard model. This puts the Air in a class of its own within the current generation.

Weight comparison

The weight of the current iPhones shows where the Air fits in:

  • iPhone Air: 165 g
  • iPhone 17: 177 g
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 206 g
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 233 g
  • iPhone 16: 170 g
  • iPhone 16 Plus: 199 g
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 199 g
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 227 g

The iPhone Air is seven percent lighter than the iPhone 17 and a full 34 percent lighter than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It even weighs less than the iPhone 16. Its thin design makes it feel even lighter in the hand than the numbers suggest.

Display sizes at a glance

In addition to weight, display size also plays a decisive role. The iPhone Air is well positioned here:

  • iPhone Air: 6.5 inches
  • iPhone 17: 6.3 inches
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3 inches
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9 inches

This means the Air offers a larger screen area than the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, but remains significantly lighter than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Those who value a large display without carrying a heavy smartphone will find this a noticeable alternative.

Material and design

Another factor is the material. While the iPhone 16 Pro models were still made of titanium, Apple is using aluminum for the new Pro versions, while the Air uses titanium. This metal is lighter and contributes to the reduced weight. Combined with the slim design, this results in a smartphone that is comfortable to use even over extended periods.

iPhone Air: Light, large and perfectly balanced

The iPhone Air is the lightest iPhone of the current generation and, at 165 grams, sets a clear benchmark. It demonstrates that a smartphone can be significantly slimmer and more manageable than the Pro models despite a larger display. In terms of weight, it's below the iPhone 17, but at 6.5 inches, it offers more screen space. The combination of aluminum, a thin chassis, and optimized size makes the iPhone Air a model that redefines the balance between design, everyday usability, and comfort.
