About ten days after the release of iOS 13.1.3, there are now increasing reports that some iPhone devices cannot be charged wirelessly. Is iOS 13.1.3 to blame?
Apple released iOS 13.1.3 to all users on October 15. Now there are increasing reports from iPhone 11 owners who have noticed a charging problem. According to them, the device can only be charged with a cable. This is what Apple’s community forum says: "There seems to be an issue with the iPhone 11. I have 2 of them (iOS 13.1.3) and one of them charges fine on the wireless pad - the other one doesn't (only charges if I reboot it regularly). Both have optimized battery charging turned off." Another user writes: "In my case, it doesn't charge at all as soon as I put it on a charger and I have two iPhone 11, one of them charges properly, the other doesn't - (tried 3 different chargers).
A look at the other complaints suggests that the iPhone 11 basically recognizes a wireless charging pad but refuses to charge. Some of those affected report that their devices become very warm due to this contact - even though the charging process has not started. The majority of all complaints document iOS 13.1.3 - but the problem also seems to exist in other versions. Some users report the same bug under iOS 13.1.1 and even under iOS 13.2 - the latter is currently in the fourth beta. Consequently, the problem cannot currently be narrowed down to a specific software version, even though iOS 13.1.3 is clearly ahead.
Is there a solution?
But can the problem be solved manually? The answer is yes and no. For some users, restarting the device solves the problem - others report that this step only helps temporarily. However, there are also entries that say restarting didn't help at all - on these devices, wireless charging is simply blocked.
It is currently unknown whether other iPhone models are affected. Since there is no consistent pattern yet, the cause of the problem cannot be determined specifically. It remains to be seen whether and when Apple will comment on this issue. The release of the final version of iOS 13.2 is expected early next week - more on this here.
