Apple has released the second beta version of iOS 26. iPadOS 26, macOS 26 ("Tahoe"), watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 are now also available in new developer preview versions. The updates are now available for download through the Apple Developer Program. Those waiting for the public test version will have to wait a little longer – the public beta is expected to launch in July.
With the release of the second beta versions, this year's testing cycle enters the next phase. The new software generation brings visible changes across all platforms – from a redesigned design to new system features to the expansion of Apple Intelligence. The first beta versions were distributed directly after the WWDC 2025 keynote. Now comes the next step, in which Apple delivers initial optimizations and minor visible adjustments.
iOS 26 instead of iOS 19: New version logic explained
This year, Apple opted for a new naming system. The version number 26 represents the year 2026—the year in which the new software generation will be predominantly used. Even though releases begin in 2025, the new names are intended to provide more clarity—similar to the automotive industry—especially for users with multiple Apple devices. The new logic applies across all platforms: iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 will all be released under the same year.
Design, system maintenance and more intelligence
Apple is focusing on a consistent, modern look across all new systems. The new "Liquid Glass" design gives surfaces more depth and transparency. Content is brought more into focus, and controls appear lighter and more dynamic – this applies equally to iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Vision Pro. A second focus is on the deeper integration of Apple Intelligence. However, these features are only available on supported devices – including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and Mac and iPad models with Apple Silicon.
This is what the new betas contain
As usual, Apple is delivering minor improvements and bug fixes in the second beta generation. Even if a complete feature list is not published, the first visible innovations often appear during this phase – such as optimized menus, additional settings or redesigned app areas. Users who have already installed the first beta can update directly via the software update. watchOS 26 brings, among other things, the new "Workout Buddy", which provides personalized voice prompts during workouts. The training app has also been visually redesigned and expanded with new music features. tvOS 26 improves Apple Music Sing, introduces a new design with Liquid Glass and simplifies user profile management. visionOS 26 makes widgets spatial, visually enhances personas and offers support for the PlayStation VR2 controller. macOS 26, alias "Tahoe", also includes the first design adjustments and system-wide improvements in conjunction with Apple Intelligence.
This is what's next for iOS 26 and Co.
The beta phase will run throughout the summer as usual. New test versions are usually released every two weeks. The public testing phase begins in July. The final version of iOS 26 and the other systems is expected in the fall, as is the case every year. Until then, more features will be added, existing ones revised, and overall stability optimized. As always, we'll be following the development with detailed reports, providing practical tips, and systematically summarizing all the new features – so you can always keep track.
