Apple has released the third developer beta of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, tvOS 18, watchOS 11, macOS 15, and visionOS 2. These new beta versions provide developers with another opportunity to test the latest features and optimizations and adapt their apps accordingly.

With each new beta version, Apple brings iOS 18 closer to the final release. The second beta of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, recently released to developers, offers numerous new features and optimizations that should further improve the user experience.

Review of the second beta of iOS 18

iPhone mirroring

One of the most exciting new features in iOS 18 beta 2 was the introduction of iPhone mirroring. This feature allows you to control your iPhone directly from your Mac, provided it has macOS Sequoia beta 2 installed. You can open apps, manage notifications, and more, even when your iPhone is locked. Note, however, that this feature is currently not available for EU residents.

RCS Toggle

Another highlight of the second beta is the RCS toggle. iOS 18 Beta 2 added a switch for the new RCS messaging protocol, which is intended to replace SMS and MMS. With the RCS protocol, you can send richer media and more reliable group messages.

home screen

The home screen also received some new features:

  • Dark mode for App Store icon: The App Store icon now has a dark mode that changes the background color of the app.
  • Background color toggle: There is a new background color toggle that can be used in automatic mode and darkens the background image. However, the tinting and icon color change can be buggy in Beta 2 and sometimes reboots are required to activate the changes. It is possible that the third beta has fixed the issue.

Passwords app

The Passwords app got a new “+” button in the main view. This button allows you to quickly add new items without having to tap the “All” icon first. This makes managing your passwords much easier and saves time.

control center

The power button in Control Center has been redesigned to feel more distinct and is only activated by pressing rather than tapping. This change reduces the chance of the power button being activated accidentally.

Changes to the EU app ecosystem

There have also been important changes for users in the European Union. The iPadOS 18 beta now supports alternative app marketplaces and downloading apps from websites. These adjustments are due to requirements from the European Commission and were already introduced with iOS 17.4 for the iPhone.

New features and improvements at a glance

The second beta version of iOS 18 brought numerous exciting new features and improvements that further optimize the user experience on your iPhone and iPad. While the exact Details the third beta are not yet known, you can be sure that Apple continues to work hard to improve and fine-tune its operating system. Stay tuned for further updates and reports to find out what new features and changes the third beta brings. Are you looking for new accessories?
