Apple released an update for all five operating systems on Tuesday. The main innovation under iOS 13.3 is called “Communication Limit” – found in the “Screen Time” section.
The new "Communication Limit" feature allows parents to control their children's communication using "Screen Time." This feature can therefore restrict contact with other people. Parents can limit communication to specific people or completely block contact with people not listed in the phone book. It's actually a pretty useful feature. But it has now been discovered that the feature contains a bug. This allows children to bypass the block. A new report from the news channel CNBC explains the error. If Screen Time is active with the above-mentioned restriction, the child may not be able to respond to a message from an unknown number. A parent would first have to save the number in the phone book. But this can be circumvented if the affected device is connected to an Apple Watch.
Apple confirms error and provides solution
According to the report, a paired Apple Watch is the solution and would allow texting or calling the "unknown" number regardless of whether the number is blocked. Apple has already responded to the CNBC report and confirmed the bug. A patch is in the works, according to Cupertino. At the same time, the company presented a temporary workaround. Parents can close this gap by forcing the device to sync contacts with iCloud. This means that anyone who syncs their contacts with Gmail or other services by default is affected by the bug. Apple's workaround is as follows:
Open iOS Settings and navigate to the "Contacts" section. Now select "Default Account" and change the setting to "iCloud."
