Rumors about an iMac update have been circulating for several months documentedNow the time has come. Apple has announced new iMac devices and will be using Intel processors for the last time. However, the long-awaited redesign has not yet been released.

In recent weeks, there have been repeated reports that Apple wants to update the iMac. But the update has not arrived – until today. In the press release explained Apple:

iMac 2020: SSD is now standard

Apple today announced a major update to its 27-inch iMac. By far the most powerful and capable iMac ever, it features faster Intel processors with up to 10 cores, double the memory, next-generation AMD graphics, superfast SSDs with four times the storage capacity, a new nano-structured glass option for an even more stunning Retina 5K display, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, higher fidelity speakers, and studio-quality microphones.

As mentioned, the new iMacs will come with brand new 10th generation Intel processors and next generation AMD graphics cards. An SSD is now standard in all iMac models, with upgrades up to 8TB of storage. The new iMac also gets the T2 security chip. In addition, the 5K display on the new iMac 27″ features True Tone technology and a new nano glass texture option like the Pro Display XDR. But the camera might be the highlight. Finally, the outdated 720p camera has been removed and replaced with a 1080p lens.

Orders will be accepted starting today

In addition to the 27-inch model, the 21.5-inch version has also been updated. This variant will also be delivered with SSDs in the future. But that's not all. Apple has also updated the iMac Pro. The announcement states:

The iMac Pro now comes standard with a 10-core Intel Xeon processor. Designed for professionals who demand workstation-class performance, the iMac Pro features up to 18-core Xeon processors, up to 22 teraflops of graphics performance, up to 256GB of four-channel, four-channel ECC memory, and a brilliant 27-inch Retina 5K display.
