The news comes from the Axios Pro Rata newsletter from Dan PrimackThe report explains that "multiple sources" have confirmed that Apple has expressed interest in a possible acquisition of TikTok. Yes, it would be an unusual deal for Apple, considering TikTok is a cross-platform application and poses a bigger political problem than Tim Cook might want (both here and in China).
Microsoft is currently negotiating with TikTok's parent company ByteDance. It remains to be seen whether Apple is actually interested in a takeover and is examining the whole thing internally. The company has already denied the rumor through a spokesperson - but there are sources who are sticking to their statements. The whole thing would be unusual, however, as TikTok is also very popular on the Android market. According to Fox Business, Facebook and Google are also interested, but details are not known.
TikTok: Trump threatens to ban
US President Donald Trump has already threatened to ban TikTok in the United States out of concern for national security. Specifically, Trump believes that the operators are selling user data to the Chinese government. ByteDance has already denied these allegations several times - but Trump does not accept them. Only a takeover by a US company could save the video service overseas. According to the current status, September 15 has been set as the deadline.
