At the beginning of the year it was announced that LG TVs would also be equipped with AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support. Now there is a launch date.
Smart TV manufacturer LG has announced details of the release date of the long-awaited update on Twitter. The update will be released next Monday and will officially introduce support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. In addition to the in-house update, iPhones and iPads must have iOS 12.4 or higher - according to the TV manufacturer. The supported devices are somewhat controversial. Only LG TVs from 2019 will be taken into account - the TV manufacturer announced this at the beginning of the year. This means that older TVs will not have the new functions.
Hoping for more choice
With AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support, compatible TVs can be integrated directly into the Home app and connected to devices such as the HomePod. LG was one of the first TV manufacturers to announce support for AirPlay 2. It remains to be seen whether the update will really only appear on 2019 models - some believe that LG will expand the compatible product range to include 2018 devices - like competitor Samsung.
