Apple announced late Monday evening that current Apple Hardware Engineering Senior Vice President Dan Riccio will be replaced by John Ternus.
In a short press release, Apple announced that John Ternus will be taking over the position of Hardware Engineering Senior Vice President, while Dan Riccio will focus on a new role related to an unspecified project. explained Apple CEO Tim Cook:
Every innovation Dan has brought to life at Apple has made us a better, more innovative company, and we're thrilled he will continue to be part of the team. John's deep expertise and breadth of experience make him a bold and visionary leader for our hardware engineering teams. I want to congratulate them both on these exciting new steps, and look forward to many more innovations they will bring to the world.
Dan Riccio: “The chance of a lifetime”
Dan Riccio's new role will involve something new and will report directly to Tim Cook. This means Riccio will have to report directly to Apple's CEO. However, due to the vague description, not much is known. As mentioned above, it's supposed to be a "new project"—Riccio's position is described as "Vice President of Engineering." This new project could be anything from the Apple Car to Apple's VR/AR hardware efforts, or something completely new. Riccio commented on the topic as follows:
Working at Apple was the opportunity of a lifetime to build the best products in the world with the most talented people imaginable.
It remains to be seen how Apple's hardware lineup will develop when Ternus takes the reins. (Image: Apple)
