At the start of this year's Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, the Chinese electronics manufacturer TCL also made an interesting announcement. Among other things, it concerns a new mini-LED technology.
With today's announcement, TCL wants to give respect to OLED technology and particularly highlights the new mini-LED technology. The press release states:

Vidrian Mini-LED technology is the next step in taking LCD-LED TV picture quality to unmatched levels of sharp contrast, brilliant luminance and highly stable, long-lasting performance. Combined with TCL's large-format 8K LCD panels, this advanced backlight technology enables consumers to enjoy immersive entertainment in any lighting conditions, from being enveloped in a movie in the darkest home theater to getting excited about a daytime ball game in a sun-drenched living room. The new mini-LED technology is impressive - that much is clear. According to some reports, it brings improved backlight brightness, stronger contrast and clarity that has not been seen before. Senior Vice President, TCL North America, Chris Larson explains it all as follows:
Mini-LED technology is critical for strong contrast performance and TCL is proud to have launched the world's first TV with Mini-LED backlighting. The 2019 high-performance 8-Series TV here in the US and several models in other regions deliver exceptional contrast and brilliant clarity.
