The M4 Pro is Apple's latest chip, and the first benchmark results are causing a stir: in the CPU area, it even surpasses the M2 Ultra, which is currently used in the most powerful devices such as the Mac Studio and Mac Pro. With impressive performance values and an efficient architecture, the M4 Pro appears to be a milestone in the development of Apple Silicon.

Apple is known for developing powerful chips that are specifically tailored to its own devices. After the introduction of the M3 chip, which already set standards in terms of performance, the next generation is now just around the corner with the M4 Pro. With up to 14 CPU cores, which are divided into 10 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, the M4 Pro is a real powerhouse. The first question that arises is: can it keep up with or even surpass the performance of the M2 Ultra? The benchmarks on Geekbench suggest that Apple has taken a decisive step forward here.

CPU performance: M4 Pro faster than the M2 Ultra?

The M4 Pro is already impressive with its benchmark results. In the Geekbench entries reached The M4 Pro achieved values between 3,600 and 3,900 points in the single-core range and 22,000 to 22,600 points in the multi-core range. For comparison: The M2 Ultra, Apple's previous top chip with 24 CPU cores (16 performance and 8 efficiency cores), is overtaken by the M4 Pro in multi-core tests and even achieves significantly lower values in the single-core test. These results show that the M4 Pro achieves impressive performance with its 14-core configuration, including 10 performance cores - even though it gets by with a smaller number of cores. The clock rate of the M4 Pro is around 4.489 GHz and thus delivers a high computing speed, which is an advantage for demanding applications. Thanks to its architecture, it is ideal for anyone who needs a powerful, high-performance system, be it for creative work or intensive computing processes.

The question of graphics performance: M4 Pro vs. M2 Ultra

Although the M4 Pro scores highly in terms of CPU performance, the situation is different when it comes to graphics performance. The M2 Ultra is equipped with up to 76 GPU cores, while the M4 Pro offers "only" 20 GPU cores. Since there are no benchmark results for the GPU performance of the M4 Pro yet, it is expected that the M2 Ultra will be significantly ahead in the GPU area. The 20 GPU cores of the M4 Pro may be faster individually, but this is probably not enough for higher overall performance in the graphics area. However, Apple's development shows that GPU performance is continuously improving. If an Ultra variant of the M4 is released, it could be equipped with a similar number of cores as the M2 Ultra, which could lead to graphics performance that surpasses the M2 Ultra.

Mac mini and MacBook Pro: M4 Pro as the heart

The first benchmarks come from devices with the identifiers Mac16,11 and Mac16,7, which could be the new Mac mini or MacBook Pro. Both devices are offered in various configurations and are equipped with the M4 Pro depending on the model. For many users, the M4 Pro in a Mac mini or MacBook Pro offers an excellent combination of performance and efficiency, which is ideal for intensive work processes.

CPU vs. GPU in focus

Overall, the M4 Pro shows incredible efficiency and performance, especially in the CPU architecture, which makes it the top candidate for users with high performance requirements. However, for graphics applications or other GPU-heavy processes, the M2 Ultra could still be the better choice. The launch of a possible M4 Ultra variant is therefore eagerly awaited.

M4 Pro – A step into the future of Apple Silicon

With the M4 Pro, Apple has made a remarkable step forward in the development of Apple Silicon. The CPU performance surpasses the M2 Ultra, which shows that Apple makes no compromises when developing highly efficient and powerful chips. If you are considering a device with an M4 Pro chip, you can expect strong computing power that is ready for all tasks - be it creative applications, professional software or performance-intensive programs. So if you are looking for a Mac with impressive performance and especially benefit from the CPU speed, the M4 Pro is just the thing. Apple has once again proven that innovation and performance can go hand in hand in the area of desktop and laptop processors. (Image: Apple)
