On December 6th, Apple released the ECG function for the Apple Watch Series 4 in the USA under watchOS 5.1.2. The feature has not yet been released in Germany.
The electrocardiogram (ECG) is the recording of the sum of the electrical activities of all heart muscle fibers using an electrocardiograph. The 4th generation of the Apple Watch can do just that. In order to measure the current flow, the user must hold their finger to the digital crown for 30 seconds. A cardiogram is then created. In order to be able to offer such a feature, approval from the health authorities in the respective country is required. Apple has already received this in the USA - other countries are still pending.
New sign of life of the ECG function in the German watchOS 5.2 beta
On Monday evening the fourth beta round launched for developers. This included watchOS 5.2 – a clear reference to the ECG has now been discovered in the German version of the operating system for the Apple Watch. According to this, the "ECG" option can now be selected in the complications for the Infograph watch face. However, the feature itself is not active. The selection was not possible before. This could, of course, be a mistake on Apple's part – or it could be an indication that the function will be introduced with the final version of watchOS 5.2. A similar process already took place before the US launch. Apple itself has not provided any further information on this topic so far – the final versions of the four operating systems are expected at the end of March.
