Apple, together with Universal Music Group, has unveiled a new audio platform called "Sound Therapy." It's a collection of specially curated music tracks designed to help you focus, relax, or fall asleep more easily. The exclusive release is now available on Apple Music.
Music has long been more than just entertainment. Apple and Universal Music are now taking music and health seriously. With "Sound Therapy," they rely on scientifically based sound processing to specifically promote specific mental states. The playlists are based on newly developed audio technologies and are designed to positively influence your everyday life – without any additional apps or tools, directly from Apple Music.
What is sound therapy?
Sound Therapy consists of several playlists divided into three categories: Concentration, Relaxation, and Sleep. The included songs are from well-known artists such as Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, and Kacey Musgraves. However, you won't simply hear the original versions—they've been reworked, extended, instrumentalized, or enhanced with additional audio effects such as white noise or specific sound waves.
Who is behind it?
The technical and creative implementation comes from Sollos, a music wellness specialist within the Universal Music Group. Producers, sound engineers, and scientists work together there to create the sound. Their goal is to process music in a way that demonstrably influences the brain. According to Apple, all songs were specifically enhanced with so-called acoustic beats and colored noises to trigger different reactions in the brain. Gamma waves and white noise promote concentration, theta waves aid relaxation, and delta waves and pink noise aid sleep. Pink noise is a gentler version of white noise and is reminiscent of natural sounds like wind or rain.
How does it work?
The playlists are designed to support you in various everyday situations. For example, a reworked song by Imagine Dragons can help you focus on your work, while a dreamy version of Katy Perry's "Double Rainbow" can have a calming effect and help you fall asleep. The music is designed to activate specific brain frequencies without actively challenging you—making it a passive tool for self-regulation. Apple describes it this way:
Sound Therapy uses the power of sound waves, psychoacoustics, and cognitive science to help listeners relax or focus their minds.
Where can you hear Sound Therapy?
The entire collection is available exclusively on Apple Music. You'll need an active subscription to stream the content. The playlists are already online and can be found by searching for "Sound Therapy" or directly through Apple Music's wellness offering.
Sound Therapy as a new dimension in Apple Music
With "Sound Therapy," Apple is expanding its music offerings beyond pure streaming. The combination of well-known songs, newly developed audio technologies, and scientific support makes the project interesting for anyone who wants to use music for active self-help. If you're specifically looking for more peace, concentration, or better sleep, this new feature on Apple Music could be just the thing for you. (Image: Apple)
