Apple patents are often an exciting topic and show the ideas of the engineers in Cupertino. Now a new patent has been discovered that shows that Apple is working on a completely new computer concept.
How Patently Apple now reported, the patent envisions a Magic Keyboard that contains a complete computer that can be connected to any screen. This new concept seems to compete with a desktop computer and a laptop. Users can transport the keyboard without having to carry a monitor, a tower or a mouse. Of course, the keyboard will also include a trackpad, which would make a mouse superfluous. Essentially, it is a portable desktop computer in the format of a Magic Keyboard.
Apple could turn a Magic Keyboard into a full-fledged Mac
Similar to the Mac mini, users bring their own screen. In some of the patent examples, the device includes a housing with a heat-conducting base. It can also contain a processing unit that is thermally connected to the base. Apple could manufacture the keyboard in such a way that the heat is distributed throughout the housing. This patent was reportedly filed in August 2020 and was recently confirmed and published by the US Patent Office. The idea of a Magic Keyboard as a full-fledged Mac device is sure to excite some fans. However, as always with patents, in the end the whole thing could remain just an idea.
