iPhone 14: Is this what the new notch looks like?

There has been a lot of speculation about what design changes Apple might have in store for this year's iPhone 14. The focus is on the notch.

While initial reports suggested that the notch would be dropped in favor of a new hole design, more recent reports suggested that Apple is planning a unique “hole and pill” design instead. Now new photos have been posted on the Chinese website Weibo divided, which provide a better picture of the new front design. The image was posted by a Weibo user and allegedly shows a more detailed schematic of the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max. The post was also featured in a YouTube video divided, posted by Jon Prosser on Saturday. Prosser claims that he was able to "independently verify" that this schematic is genuine and accurately represents the design Apple will use.

iPhone 14 Pro front could feature hole and pill design

Like Apple Track writes, Apple appears to be building the notch's components directly into the display, eliminating the redundant areas that don't house cameras or sensors. While this change will certainly be controversial, it should, in theory, be less obtrusive than the notch itself. Apple's plans for a punch-hole and pill design were first revealed earlier this year by Display Supply Chain Consultants analyst Ross Young. That report contradicted previous statements that suggested Apple wants to use a simple punch-hole design similar to many Android manufacturers. The iPhone 14 will reportedly come in two different screen sizes: 6.1- and 6.7-inches. Apple is expected to offer a standard and "Pro" variant of each screen size, which could suggest a lineup that looks something like this:

  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Max
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max

Will Apple eliminate the distinctive camera bump?

The front design change will only be implemented on the Pro models. The two standard devices are rumored to have the smaller notch that was introduced with the iPhone 13 series. However, this is set to change in 2023, as Ross Young announced on Twitter reported. That means that next year, all four models could have the new front. As for the casing, rumors say that the iPhone 14 will get a new design that has many similarities to the iPhone 4. These include things like round volume buttons, a glass design, and more. Other planned changes include a titanium casing and an overall thicker design that will result in the camera bump being removed. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the rumor mill will be right in the end. (Image: Jon Prosser x Rendersbyan)
