Yesterday evening, Apple released the sixth beta of iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and Co. to registered developers. Below we summarize all the new features.

Apple is now officially in the weekly update rhythm passed, which means that the upcoming beta versions will be a little more streamlined in terms of what's new. During this phase, the focus is on performance improvements, stability, and bug fixes. Anyway. Let's get started.

Safari is being revised again

Apple has added a button in iOS 15 Beta 6 to move the Safari address bar to the top of the screen, returning Safari to an iOS 14-like design. Users can now choose whether the search bar should be at the top or bottom. It is currently unknown whether the feature will remain permanent. Those who prefer the new design, i.e. who want to fix the address bar at the bottom, can continue to do so. But Apple has also made a small change here. The bottom tab bar has been redesigned so that it is now displayed below the page content. The Safari design options let you switch between the tab bar at the bottom and the single tab at the top, and there are also toggle switches to disable website tinting and to enable or disable a tab bar in landscape mode. If you want to see the whole thing, you can find corresponding images in my article yesterday.

Safari bookmarks and history

When you access Safari's history, bookmarks, and reading list on iOS 15, if you have bottom search bar view enabled, the interface will be displayed from bottom to top, taking up less space on the screen. If Single Tab is enabled, the interface will look the same as before.

SharePlay has been removed

SharePlay is no longer available in the sixth beta of iOS 15 because Apple has temporarily removed it. This means that SharePlay will no longer be available when iOS 15, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15 and macOS 12 Monterey launch. According to Apple, the feature will be added in a later version.

Watch Face Automation

In the fifth beta of iOS 15, the automation for automatically setting a watch face on the Apple Watch was removed. But now the option is available again in the Shortcuts app. No further changes are currently known. We will update the article or report separately if further changes emerge. Apple devices here aren't test units for a fortnight but everyday tools: from the iPhone to the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac through to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it goes live.
