Wondering if Apple will launch a new Apple TV this year? You're not alone. It's been almost two years since the Apple TV's last hardware update, and many fans and tech enthusiasts are eager to see when the next model will be released. Below, we'll look at the latest rumors, release dates so far, and what you can expect from a new Apple TV.

Apple has continually redefined consumer electronics with its innovative products. The Apple TV is no exception and has continued to evolve since its launch. With the launch of tvOS 17, which brings new features like a FaceTime app, anticipation for the next generation of Apple TV hardware is growing. But the big question remains: When will Apple unveil the next Apple TV?

rumors and speculations

In January 2023, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple was working on a new version of the Apple TV, which would be released in the first half of 2024. This new version, according to Gurman, would feature a faster processor and retain the current design. However, the first half of the year passed without the announcement of a new model, which raises many questions. Since then, there have been no credible rumors about the next Apple TV. Apple has announced a special event for September 9, 2024. However, rumors suggest that this event will mainly feature new iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods. A new Apple TV is not currently expected, which suggests that it could be even longer before we see an update.

Review: Release dates of the last models

A look at the release dates of the last five Apple TV models shows that Apple has not followed a fixed pattern for the release of new models in the past:

  • Third-generation Apple TV 4K: October 2022
  • Second-generation Apple TV 4K: April 2021
  • First generation Apple TV 4K: September 2017
  • Apple TV HD: September 2015
  • Third generation Apple TV: March 2012

This data highlights that Apple does not update its TV box annually, making it difficult to predict the next release date.

Possible innovations and pricing

It is speculated that the next Apple TV will have a faster processor than the current A15 Bionic chip. This would improve performance and possibly support new features. In addition, it is expected that the price of the new model could be lower. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has hinted that the next Apple TV could potentially cost less than $100. For comparison, the current model starts at $129 (€169) for the version with 64GB of storage. Interestingly, Apple has already offered an Apple TV for under $100 in the past, namely the second and third generation, which cost $99 when they were launched. So there is a precedent, and such a pricing model could help Apple better compete with budget streaming devices like those from Amazon and Roku.

future prospects

While no major design changes are expected for the next Apple TV, there is speculation about a future model with a built-in camera. This could be particularly useful for video calling on the TV, a feature introduced with tvOS 17. Currently, this requires an external device such as an iPhone or iPad, but a built-in camera would eliminate the need for this and make the Apple TV even more versatile.

Patience required: When will Apple release the next Apple TV?

Exactly when the next Apple TV will launch remains unclear. Rumors are rife, but there's no official information yet. One thing is certain, however: When Apple introduces a new model, you can look forward to new features, improved performance, and possibly a more attractive price. Until then, the excitement remains, and we can only wait and see what Apple is planning next. So stay tuned and don't miss the latest Apple TV developments! Looking for accessories from top brands?
