The excitement is building: Apple's biggest event of the year is just around the corner and all eyes are on September 9th. In addition to the launch of the new iPhone 16 and 16 Pro series, the Apple Watch Series 10 and the Ultra 3, Apple is also expected to present the new AirPods 4. Below you'll find out everything you need to know about the upcoming AirPods 4 - from the different models and the new design to the most important features and the expected price.

Apple has set high standards with each new generation of its AirPods over the past few years. The AirPods 4 are no exception and could prove to be another milestone in the history of wireless earbuds. Whether you're already a fan of Apple's audio devices or want to dive into the world of AirPods for the first time, the AirPods 4 promise to raise the bar again.

Two models, two price ranges

Apple plans to launch the AirPods 4 in two different versions. One will be positioned as a more affordable option that offers fewer features, while the other version will be a little more expensive but packed with more features. This strategy allows Apple to appeal to both entry-level and more demanding users. The cheaper version will replace the AirPods 2 model, while the more expensive model will serve as the successor to the AirPods 3.

New design for better comfort

The design of the AirPods 4 is expected to be a mix of the current AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro. With shorter stems and a generally improved fit, the new AirPods are expected to be more comfortable to wear for a wider audience. However, unlike the AirPods Pro, the AirPods 4 will not have replaceable silicone tips. Nevertheless, the revised design could mean that the earbuds sit better in the ears and are therefore more comfortable for everyday use.

Premium features in the more expensive model

The more expensive model of the AirPods 4 will be equipped with some exclusive features that were previously reserved for the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. These include active noise cancellation, which allows you to effectively block out annoying ambient noise. In addition, this model will probably have a transparency mode that allows you to let ambient noise through if you want, without having to take the AirPods off. Another highlight is the MagSafe compatibility of the charging case, which will also be equipped with a built-in speaker to support the "Find My?" function.

USB-C: A big step forward

Another significant update to the AirPods 4 is the switch to USB-C for charging. This marks an important step in Apple's efforts to convert its entire product line to the universal standard. With this move, Apple is moving closer to its dream of 100 % USB-C and making it easier for users to charge their devices with the same cable.

Rumors about additional features

While concrete information about other features of the AirPods 4 is still scarce, there is speculation that Apple could announce some improvements in terms of sound quality or special features. It would not be surprising if features such as conversation detection or voice isolation during calls are included. However, most of the premium features are expected to remain reserved for the more expensive models such as the AirPods Pro 2.

Prices and availability

When Apple launches a new version of a product, the company often keeps the same price as its predecessor. The entry-level version of the AirPods 4 is expected to cost around €150, while the more expensive model with the additional features will probably be around €200. The official launch is expected on September 9, with possible pre-orders starting September 13 and expected availability from September 20.
