The well-known and popular car ball game Rocket League will no longer be supported on macOS and Linux – both versions will soon receive a final patch.

Rocket League was first introduced in 2015 and is still very popular today - also in the e-sports sector. Over time, other platforms, including macOS and Linux, have been integrated. But this support is now to be discontinued. In a new support document, the developers - Pysonix - explain their step - it says:

We want Rocket League to provide the best possible experience for all of our players, including adapting to the use of new technologies. This has made supporting MacOS and Linux (SteamOS) difficult. For this reason, we will be providing a final patch for these versions in early March. Once the final patch for Rocket League on Mac is released in March, the version will no longer be supported. You will still be able to download and install the game, but some features will not work as expected.

These features will remain available

The features that will no longer work include all online functions, including online matchmaking, tournaments and private games. This is stated in the support document:

After the latest patch, the following online features will no longer work:

  • online matchmaking
  • Private games
  • tournaments
  • rocket pass
  • Article Shop / Esportshop
  • events in the game
  • list of friends
  • clubs
  • news panel
  • New custom training packages
  • New Steam Workshop Cards
  • rankings
  • league rankings

But not everything will disappear. For example, macOS players will still be able to compete against friends locally in split-screen mode. Existing items will also remain available in the garage or inventory. Here is the exact list:

After the latest patch, the following offline features should work as expected:

  • Local games
  • split-screen playback
  • Garage/Inventory (your existing items will not be removed from your inventory)
  • career statistics
  • playback of
  • Steam Workshop Maps (Must be downloaded before the final patch)
  • Custom training packs (must be downloaded before the final patch)

The developers also point out that all Mac users who have purchased Rocket League on Steam can of course download the Windows version for free and run it in Boot Camp. The final update will be released in early March - you can find more information in the support document below. (Image: Psyonix / Rocket League)
