Apple TV is expanding the cast of its hit series "The Morning Show." Well-known actor Jeff Daniels will take on a new role in the show's fifth season. With this addition, Apple TV is once again bolstering one of its most important original productions with a prominent Hollywood name.
The series has been a key title in Apple TV's streaming service for years. With Jeff Daniels joining the cast, the already high-caliber lineup grows even further.
Since its first season, "The Morning Show" has told the story of power struggles, personal conflicts, and political tensions behind the scenes of a major American news program. The series is considered one of Apple TV's flagship shows and is known for its star-studded cast.
With Jeff Daniels, another experienced actor joins the team, who has already worked with Apple TV several times and is primarily known for roles in newsrooms.
Jeff Daniels takes on a new role
According to Deadline, Jeff Daniels will play a "self-made billionaire and founder of a well-known investment firm" in season 5 of "The Morning Show".
Even though his character is not part of the newsroom, he fits thematically well into the series' universe, which regularly deals with power, influence and economics.
Third collaboration with Apple TV
The role in "The Morning Show" marks Jeff Daniels' third project with Apple TV. He previously appeared in the currently airing third season of the series "Shrinking." He also narrated the 2021 documentary "9/11: Inside the President's War Room."
Memories of "The Newsroom"
Daniels' casting is also interesting because it is reminiscent of his well-known role in the series "The Newsroom." There he played news anchor Will McAvoy and won an Emmy for his performance.
Even though he is not playing a presenter this time, his experience from this series brings a certain connection to the world of "The Morning Show."
The series features a prominent cast
Jeff Daniels joins an already strong cast. The cast includes Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line), Jennifer Aniston (Horrible Bosses), Nicole Beharie (Love, Brooklyn), Nestor Carbonell (Lost), Billy Crudup (Almost Famous), Mark Duplass (Blue Jay), Jon Hamm (Baby Driver), and Karen Pittman (Custody).
Start date for season 5 still open
The fourth season of "The Morning Show" ended last November. Apple TV has not yet announced an official release date for season 5.
Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt told The Hollywood Reporter, however, that things might move faster this time. Seasons 3 and 4 experienced a lengthy delay due to a writers' strike. Since there is no strike this year, production could proceed more quickly.
Apple TV: TV series and movies on offer
Apple TV currently costs €9.99 per month. The service includes series and films such as F1 The Movie, Pluribus, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
Apple TV continues to expand the cast of "The Morning Show"
Jeff Daniels joins the cast of "The Morning Show" for season 5, bringing another well-known actor to the team. This marks Apple TV's third collaboration with him.
A specific start date for the new season has not yet been set. However, it is clear that Apple TV will continue to rely on big names to further expand its series productions. (Image: Apple)
