Apple has added a new 5K LG UltraFine 27-inch monitor to its online store range. This follows the 4K LG UltraFine with 23.7 inches introduced in May.

The brand new 27-inch monitor is currently only available in the US online shop for $1299.95. Like its predecessor, it has a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels. The monitor is connected to a Mac via a Thunderbolt 3 cable - but this version of the monitor can also be connected to a compatible iPad Pro via USB-C. There are three USB-C ports with speeds of up to 5 Gb/s. The USB-C connection enables a wide range of connection options - since the market for 5K USB-C monitors offers no alternatives, the new monitor is practically unrivaled. The new display also has integrated speakers, a webcam and a microphone. It remains to be seen when the monitor will be available in other countries - but a launch is expected soon.

Professional users are waiting for the Apple Pro Monitor XDR

However, professional users will not go for the new UltraFine but will wait for Apple's new Pro Monitor XDR. This is impressive. The new backlight gives the display up to 1600 nits of brightness. The 32" monitor offers a resolution of 6015 x 2284 - according to Apple, this is a 6K Retina display. In order to offer true HDR, every single LED in the backlight is calibrated at the factory. To control the reflected light, the Pro Display XDR has an anti-reflective coating. It also has a matte option that the company calls nanotexture, where the glass is etched at the nanometer level to achieve low reflectivity and less glare. The Apple Pro Monitor XDR will be available from fall this year for $4,999. The Pro Display with nano-texture glass will be available for $5,999.
