Will new 13″ & 15″ MacBook Air models be released this summer?

According to a report, Apple will likely launch both an updated 13-inch MacBook Air and a larger 15-inch MacBook Air "between late spring and summer." However, the question of which chips will be used in these models is still open.

In the latest edition of his newsletter “Power On” reported Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that at least the next 13-inch MacBook Air will feature the yet-to-be-announced M3 chip, which will reportedly be manufactured on TSMC's latest 3nm process to improve performance. The current 13-inch model, which launched in July 2022, was equipped with the M2 chip, which is based on the 5nm process. Gurman left open whether the 15-inch MacBook Air will also feature the M3 chip. He said that a 15-inch model with an M2 chip "can still excite consumers" but "will quickly become outdated" given the switch to the upcoming M3 chip. Last month, Taiwanese publication DigiTimes claimed that the 15-inch MacBook Air will feature the M2 chip.

Which chipset will the new MacBook Air models use?

But the website has a mediocre track record when it comes to Apple rumors. Apple's supply chain began producing display panels for a new 15.5-inch MacBook Air in February, according to analyst Ross Young, who has a solid track record when it comes to display rumors. That model would be the largest MacBook Air ever, as the notebook has only been offered in 13- and 11-inch sizes so far. All in all, there is still a lot of uncertainty about the new MacBook Air models. But it's notable that Gurman expects both the 13-inch and 15-inch models to launch in the summer. He also expects a new Mac Pro desktop tower with the M2 Ultra chip and the same design as the 2019 model to launch in the summer, and an updated 24-inch iMac in the second half of the year at the earliest.
