Long waiting times for MacBook Pro orders

Apple supplier Quanta's ability to manufacture MacBook Pro models at its Shanghai facility remains severely impacted despite the easing of lockdown and the resumption of production, it is now reported.

According to the Taiwanese supply chain website DigiTimes Quanta has so far only been able to restore about 30% of production capacity at its Shanghai plant since the lockdown ended last month.

Quanta is the sole manufacturer of Apple's 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and the devices are mainly manufactured at the ODM factory in Shanghai. Quanta vice chairman CC Leung pointed out on April 30 that the Shanghai plant has restored about 30% of its capacity and plans to gradually increase the percentage to 50%.

MacBook Pro: Apple has already warned of delays

According to the report, many assembly plants have already resumed their production lines. But many are still struggling with an insufficient supply of components for the same reason. Apple customers have been facing unusually long delivery times for several weeks as production capacity is limited due to lockdowns and chip shortages. For example, anyone who pre-orders one of the new MacBook Pro models in this country from the Apple Online Store can expect delivery between mid and late July. According to DigiTimes, Apple has already switched transport from sea to air to shorten delivery times in light of disrupted logistics in China. Apple said last month that supply disruptions in China and silicon shortages will continue to make it difficult to produce enough products to meet strong consumer demand throughout the year, which will ultimately impact Apple's revenue in the June quarter.
