Apple has now released an update for iPhone and iPad. Both iOS 14.8.1 and iPadOS 14.8.1 are aimed at users who have not yet switched to iOS 15.
After Apple released iOS 15.1 and Co. on Monday evening, iOS 14.8.1 and iPadOS 14.8.1 have now been released providedThe updates are aimed at users currently running iOS 14. The update can be performed as usual in the Settings, under "General" in the "Software Update" section.
iOS 14.8.1 is highly recommended
iOS 14.8.1 is not a feature release but primarily serves as a maintenance release and fixes a number of security issues. According to Apple, many of the changes close vulnerabilities in the operating system that could either allow a malicious application to elevate its privileges or enable code execution with kernel privileges. One of the vulnerabilities addressed is a fix for IOMobileFrameBuffer, which addresses a memory corruption issue through improved memory handling. The issue, CVE-2021-30883, allowed applications to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple adds that it is "aware of a report" that it has been "actively exploited." Accordingly, the updates are strongly recommended and should be installed promptly. (Photo by Blan-k / Bigstockphoto)
