Koh Samui, Thailand - April 15, 2018: Man hands holding iPhone X with application cartographic service Apple Maps in the screen. iPhone 10 was created and developed by the Apple inc.

With the new iOS 17 update, Apple Maps has finally introduced the ability to use maps offline. This was previously a feature available on other providers like Google Maps but missing from Apple Maps. In this article, you will learn how to download and use offline maps with Apple Maps using iOS 17.

The ability to use maps offline is especially useful when you're on the move and don't have an internet connection. Whether you're abroad or in areas with poor signal reception, maps available offline provide a reliable navigation solution. With iOS 17, you can now download a specific area of the map and use it completely offline. To download an offline map, open the Apple Maps app on your iPhone and tap your avatar in the panel. Then select the new "Offline Maps" button and then "Download New Map". You can search for the area you want and adjust the boundaries of the map. The app will show you the storage space required. Confirm the download and the map will appear in the list of downloaded maps.

The larger the area downloaded, the more storage space is required. You can download as many different regions as you like. It's also worth noting that the offline maps are regularly updated with the latest changes whenever an internet connection is available. You can adjust the settings to allow downloads to occur over the cellular network as well, but note that by default only Wi-Fi connections are used for downloading. In offline mode, Apple Maps uses the downloaded map when an internet connection is not available. However, the app always looks for data over the network to include up-to-date information such as traffic. However, you can turn on the "Use offline maps only" switch in the settings to use only the downloaded map content.

With iOS 17 and the new feature for offline use of maps, Apple Maps now offers a comprehensive navigation solution. You can download maps, save them and use them completely offline. Whether you are abroad or in areas with poor network coverage, you always have access to reliable navigation functions.
