How do I force a restart on an iPhone without a home button? Many users have been asking themselves these questions since the iPhone X - up until today. With the new iPhone generation, we would now like to shed light on the topic and summarize the individual steps.

Restarting the device can often help if a certain process can no longer be carried out. This process is faster than turning off the iPhone normally and works even if the device is frozen - everyone knows such moments. But how can you actually force a restart of the iPhone without the home button? We'll show you. The instructions work not only for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max but also for the iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

How to turn off the iPhone without the home button

To turn off one of the newer iPhones without a home button, you need to press and hold the top volume button and the right side button at the same time until a new window appears. As soon as this happens, a slider with the word "Turn off" should appear at the top - a swipe from left to right turns the device off directly. Once the device has shut down, it can be restarted by long pressing the right side button - press and hold the right side button until the Apple logo appears.

Alternative way to turn off: Every iPhone can also be completely turned off via the iOS settings. To do this, open the settings and navigate to the "General" menu. Now you can tap the "Turn off" field at the bottom - the slider will appear again. Swipe to the right and the device will shut down immediately.

How to force restart your iPhone X or newer

As described above, this method works on iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. If your iPhone is experiencing problems for whatever reason, restarting it is a good idea.

If the device is frozen, you have to force a restart. Here's how to do it. First, press and release the volume up button. Now press and release the volume down button. Next, press and hold the side button. Do not release the button until the Apple logo appears.
