Apple introduced the iPhone 12 series last fall, which was the first to feature MagSafe technology. Since then, various third-party products have been introduced that are compatible with Apple's magnets - including the Choetech 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand.

The wireless 2-in-1 charging station from the home Choetech, is a specially designed wireless (Qi) charger for iPhones equipped with MagSafe technology. This charger has a gray base that looks like brushed aluminum but is actually made of plastic. On the front edge of the base there is a status LED that confirms the charging status of the iPhone and AirPods. On the back of the charger there is a USB-C port and unlike many other chargers you can buy these days, this model actually comes with a USB-C cable and a matching power adapter.

The charging station has a rubber layer that prevents scratches on devices placed on the charging surface. The rubber on the bottom is intended to prevent the classic sliding around on desks. But unfortunately it is not as effective on a glass table - at least in my case.

Choetech 2-in-1 Charger – Technical Details

The Magnetic Wireless Charger doesn't support Apple's MagSafe charging speed, so it can't charge an iPhone at 15W. But it charges at 7.5W like regular Qi-based chargers and is significantly cheaper than Apple's MagSafe Duo. Because it has a magnet, the main charging surface is designed for an iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, or 12 Pro Max and won't work with an earlier iPhone model. There is a secondary charging surface for the AirPods, which technically works with an iPhone, but it's a 2.5W charge, which is best suited to Apple's plugs.

Users can position an iPhone 12 in either landscape or portrait mode, making the charging station ideal for watching videos, FaceTime, and similar activities. Regarding the strength of the magnet, there are a few things to say. If the iPhone 12 is attached to the charger with a MagSafe compatible case, there are no problems.

My conclusion

This means that the device stays in place and charging can be carried out. However, if a case is used that is not MagSafe compatible, the device will slip off. Therefore, when charging, either a MagSafe case or no case at all should be used. Choetech's 2-in-1 MagSafe compatible wireless charger does exactly what it was designed for - charging an iPhone 12 series and, ideally, AirPods at the same time.

The charger is well made and has a nice minimalist style. So if you want a magnetic charging station but don't want to spend a lot of money, this product is definitely a good choice. The device costs around 47.99 euros and comes with a USB-C cable that is one meter long and a 30W charger.
