Reliable display analyst Ross Young has reiterated his belief that Apple will unveil a new product with a 27-inch mini-LED display in June, although another well-known analyst claims that new mini-LED products from Apple are unlikely this year.
On Wednesday, Ming-Chi Kuo said there may not be any new products with mini-LED displays from Apple in 2022 because the cost of acquiring the technology is too high. Kuo expects only Apple's existing mini-LED products, such as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, to be updated in 2022. But he does not expect any more products to be equipped with or switch to this advanced display technology. In a response to Kuo's prediction tweeted Young later said he was still "fairly confident" that a 27-inch mini-LED display would be included in a new Apple product scheduled to launch in or around June. However, he wasn't sure what Apple would call it. Young had previously hinted that the product could be a Studio Display "Pro," but acknowledged that this was only a guess.
Will Apple introduce more mini-LED products in 2022?
Young says he has confirmed the existence of this panel with several companies in Apple's supply chain and reminded the community today that his consulting firm "has pre-revealed every Apple mini-LED product to date." In February, Young claimed that Apple would launch an iMac Pro as early as summer 2022. However, the analyst immediately retracted this prediction when Apple unveiled the Mac Studio, which only made it into the rumor mill at the last minute. Young explained that his sources were unaware of the difference between the iMac, the Mac Studio, and the Studio Display, leading to confusion about Apple's exact plans. Kuo and Young both have a strong track record of providing information about future Apple products, so it will be interesting to see if Apple announces any new mini-LED products this year.
