Apple is working on a successor to the M1 chip, which will be called the M2. Several rumors already suggest that these processors will be used in devices such as an updated MacBook Air and a new version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

In a new report from 9to5Mac, these rumors are again ignited. The US blog claims that Apple will introduce a MacBook Air and a 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip later this year. According to 9to5Mac, Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo's recent prediction that the next-generation MacBook Air will use either the M1 or an updated version of it is incorrect.

MacBook Air & “MacBook” with M2 chips: Rumors are contradictory

While analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the new MacBook Air will have an updated M1 chip, our reliable sources have told us that the device will be developed with the new M2 chip. The next-generation MacBook Air, codenamed J413, is expected to launch in a single version with M2 chip.

As for the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 9to5Mac claims that Apple could drop the "Pro" designation and simply call the new device a "MacBook," as the company has done in the past. We've already heard a lot about the next-generation MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro from sources like Mark Gurman, who confirmed that the new MacBook Air will get a completely new design. Gurman also revealed details about the M2 chip, which is expected to have the same 8-core CPU as the M1 but with 9- and 10-core GPU options. A release date has not yet been announced, but the M2 devices will likely arrive this fall. (Image: Jon Prosser x Rendersbyan)
