The future of Apple's Vision Pro headset promises to be exciting. According to market research firm Omdia, the second generation of the Vision Pro will feature cutting-edge Micro-OLED displays that offer significantly improved brightness and efficiency.

The technology industry is constantly changing and Apple is known for always being at the forefront of innovation. With the Vision Pro 2, the company seems to be staying true to that tradition by focusing on advanced displays that will take the VR and AR experience to a whole new level.

Apple Vision Pro 2 could become more efficient

The most exciting improvement that the Vision Pro 2 will bring is undoubtedly the display. According to Report Apple plans to equip the Vision Pro 2 with an RGB OLEDoS display in 2027. This display represents a significant improvement over the WOLED display with color filter used in the first generation. RGB OLEDoS technology generates light and color directly from adjacent RGB subpixels on a single layer, eliminating the need for a color filter. This innovation results in significantly higher brightness compared to previous WOLED and color filter OLEDoS displays, which require the white light to be filtered through an RGB color layer. RGB OLEDoS technology is also far more efficient, meaning the Vision Pro 2 can potentially be used for longer without charging.

Second generation planned for 2027

Notably, Samsung is currently the only company capable of supplying RGB OLEDoS displays after acquiring eMagin. This could see Samsung replace Sony in Apple's supply chain when it comes to providing this groundbreaking technology for the Vision Pro 2. Respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already mentioned a 2027 timeframe for the launch of the second generation Vision Pro headset. It is believed that no more hardware updates are planned for the Vision Pro until then. There have also been reports of plans for a more affordable headset from Apple in 2025 but the current situation remains uncertain. (Image: Apple)
