Reports about Apple's efforts in VR and AR have been documented for years. Now another source is reporting that the first headset will be released in 2022.
A new rumor from Apple's supply chain supports earlier predictions made by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, which predicted the product would be released in 2022. According to Digitimes, the commercial headset—not "Apple Glass"—is in the testing phase. is called it:
Apple's AR headset has already completed a P2 [a second phase of prototype testing] and will enter the EVT (engineering verification test) phase before entering mass production.
Apple VR/AR headset: Contact lenses are also planned
Digitimes reports that the first headset could cost over $2,000. Prices up to $3,000 are said to be realistic. For this reason, Apple is already expecting modest sales. The publication, citing unidentified sources, reports that the design of the second version, dubbed "Apple Glass," is not yet finalized. This product is not expected to enter mass production until 2023 at the earliest. Previous reports stated that an industrial Apple VR/AR headset would launch in 2022, albeit at a price of $1,000. The same sources have also claimed that "Apple Glass" will appear in 2025 and contact lenses in 2030. What will ultimately be the case, of course, remains to be seen.
